The Neuroscience group in Basel, Switzerland, is looking for an experienced Senior Scientist with substantial background in Cell and Molecular Biology of Microglia. By joining our neuroinflammation team, the successful candidate will be actively involved in the implementation and application of neuro-glial co-culture systems. As part of Novartis Biomedical Research, you will join a global team of talented and dedicated scientists who are working closely together to discover and develop medicine for millions of patients suffering from neurological diseases.

About the Role

Key responsibilities:

  • Carrying out complex cell culture experiments as per protocol and direction of the scientific team
  • Implementing neuroglial co-cultures to study and counteract pathophysiological mechanisms 
  • Collaborate to establish and apply phenotypic and functional readouts for neuronal health
  • Design and optimize strategies and protocols for in vitro modeling of neuroinflammation
  • Assess novel targets and characterize compounds modulating neuroinflammatory pathways
  • Present results at internal and external scientific forums, project meetings and conferences

Minimum requirements:

  • University degree in Biology, Bioengineering or completed apprenticeship as laboratory technician in Life Sciences discipline, both with 3+ years of additional relevant work experience. Please note that we do not require a PhD level candidate for this position.
  • Prior expertise in neuroscience related drug discovery and/or myeloid cell modeling, including fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, ELISA, high-throughput data collection and analysis
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in human iPSC differentiation to neuronal cell types, glial cells and/or strong practical knowledge in primary rodent neuronal cell culturing conditions
  • Passion for fundamental exploratory research and boundless curiosity
  • Team player, collaboration and good communication
  • Fluency in English (oral/written)
